About the character

Tell me about the dream where we pull the bodies out of the lake and dress them in warm clothes again

TW FOR THIS CHARACTER INCLUDE, BUT ARE NOT LIMITED TO: anxiety, family issues, suicidal ideation (and talk when regarding his mother), NSFW, sometimes unhealthy food behavior. If these are your triggers please tell me in the DMs and I will tweak the character accordingly! This is an independent portrayal of Lan Xichen, a character from the MXTX universe.
He is presented here as a deeply flawed character, with a sparse perception of morality and who struggles to tell good from bad, especially if he has to spare judgement on those he loves.
He does suffer from anxiety in ALL verses and OCD in his modern verse. I am considering giving him some form of physical disability such as a bad leg, or chronic pain but I'm still thinking of it.
Unless we agree on a different story, you can assume he has a terrible relationship with all his family except Wangji, who he's raised and shares a deep and almost parental relationship with (Qiren is a different story, he is grateful and obedient but he does realise that the strict way he's been raised affected him, therefore he might be a little abrasive when speaking to others).
I usually prefer going for NieLan/XiYao but I am open to ship with whoever this character ends up having chemistry with.
He is a switch, and bisexual. I do write NSFW, the kinks can be discussed in the DMs. Please don't be shy to bring your ideas to the table, I am very open about all possibilities!

About the writer

It becomes still more difficult to find words at once true and kind, or not untrue and not unkind

Mun is 25+, will not write with minors.
I have no major triggers except in depth descriptions of people in a coma (not a character being in a coma, just the in depth description is a trigger for me).
I am friendly, but my health is precarious so don't take it personally if I disappear for long periods of time. You can always find me on discord, feel free to ask for it in the DMs!
I have a preference for plot and semi lit style, but I will interact with most people! I hope you enjoy my take on Xichen. If you want to interact with other flawed chacater you can find me on my Deaf!Wangji, my Mama Lan and my... Jin Guangshan. They're less active, but they're there!

Canon Verse

The gentleness that comes, not from the absence of violence, but despite the abundance of it.

Where the clouds envelop the land, there is where you can find Xichen. He is quiet, understanding, but strict with his disciples. It's hard to make him angry, and he does smile to all in the same way, be it clan leader or beggar.
He might be unaware of his privileges, but never uncaring of his responsibilities.
He does, however, have some weak points. Any comparison with his father will make him waver, and so will every mention of his late mother. He will be more lenient with Wangji and Sizhui, and bend the rules for them as much as he can.
He does have a light crush on both A'Yao and Mingjue, but he tries to conceal it as best as he can. Qiren is trying to set him up for a political marriage, but he's managing to dodge the possibility so far. It's not that he's not open to marry into another sect, or that he dislikes his uncle's picks. It's more that he is terrified of ending up like his parents, afraid he would hurt Wangji by marrying, and maybe also afraid that he is not made for love, after all.
At least not like this. Not with a woman he's seen once in a portrait.

Modern Verse

I sleep. I dream. I make up things that I would never say. I say them very quietly.

Lan Xichen, the young heir of the Lans fortune and business. Lan Huan, the fashion student, the indie stylist that lives alone with his fabrics in a shabby flat downtown.
One of them is in the past, the other is in the present. When he left his home, he knew he could not come back, that he was giving up on everything. Still, for once, he'd chosen himself over the convoluted family dynamics that scarred him. The ghost of his father, how the company had eaten every ounce of humanity out of him. The shadow of his mother, gone on a summer day by her own hand and a letter where she asked to take care of Wangji. He is both and he is neither.
And he is afraid.
He is overworked, he is sleep deprived, and he might be too thin forhis own good since he forgets to eat and when he does he just cannot let go of his vegetarian diet. But he is free.
Wangji is always welcome in his house, and this will never change. He might have given up on Xichen and his galas, but to his brother he will always be Huan'Ge. The one who will smile and solve problems, the one who will understand, the one who will try to make all Zhan'er's burdens lighter.
